Well, we knew this day would come.
You ladies know we love to champion plus-size models here to be sure they get the love they might not get other places. So, it was obvious a few months ago that we might eventually have to say goodbye to Crystal Renn as a subject on our blog. Not as a person - she has the right to do whatever she wants with her body. But as a woman who used to show the world that curvy can be beautiful, she no longer fits the bill. Yes, she's virtually unrecognizable since her most recent weight loss. But it's not her it's us. We're just not here to shed light on everyday stick thin models. That's what those other style blogs are for.
As EntertainmentWise.com wrote last week, such a dramatic change after years of Renn's talk (and a book!) about plus size beauty seems to promote the idea that "everyone wants to be thin, regardless of how many times they say 'I love my body the way it is.'" And we can't be part of that.
So Long, Crystal Renn

I am cheering, literally cheering, as I read this post! That last sentence is brilliant! Thank you!
I mean, at a size 6, she was never plus size but still, at least she was healthy and beautiful. And now, the fashion industry has won. boo.
So true. Her weight loss has left me feeling uncomfortable in the wake of all of that self-promotion that beauty comes at any size. Which perhaps is hypocritical of me, not of her. But that discomfort still remains, especially since she looks quite emaciated now.
After seeing her model for Lane Bryant and reading her book it was disappointing to me to see the drastic change. As long as we remember she has a eating disorder and will be dealing with her weight for the rest of her life we can cross her off the plus size modeling list and move on to the next one.
Not sure if you're aware, but the girl in the black and white pic isn't Crystal. It's Tara Lynn.
